Oakley, Inc. filed a trademark infringement case in the Northern District of Illinois against hundreds of partnerships and unincorporated associations in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The partnerships and unincorporated associations are located in the People’s Republic of China and other foreign jurisdictions. Oakley alleges Trademark Infringement and Counterfeiting, False Designation of Origin, a Claim for Injunctive Relief Under The Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act as to the Defendants Operating a Defendant Domain Name Incorporating the Oakley Trademarks, and violation of Illinois Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act against the partnerships and unincorporated associations.

In a decision released on March 4, 2015, the Patent Trials and Appeals Board (PTAB) denied a Petition for Inter Partes Review of U.S. Pat. No. 6,346,056 on all grounds. Nouis Technologies, the owner of the ‘056 patent, was defended by Sherinian Law Attorneys Konrad Sherinian and Edward Bi.
